My history

           Ever since I was a child, organizing has always been something special to me. I was about 12 years old when my grandfather passed away, and I helped my father organize his things. It was a healing process – sad because of the goodbye, but happy because of the action and the teamwork with my father. Since then, “organizing and arranging” has meant honoring things and people, an act that transcends the material and becomes a way of organizing life itself, which never stops and keeps moving forward.

           On the other hand, my mother taught me a different view of order: the importance of thinking systematically and following steps to achieve a goal. While we were organizing things around the house or in the library, she would count: “1, 2, 3, 4…” and we would move on. We would clear the table, put everything in its place, or create a balanced library where many books coexisted with carefully placed ornaments and memorabilia.

Slovenian Theatre Groups in Buenos Aires, Argentina

For years, I took part in the theatrical activities of the Slovenian community in Buenos Aires. I periodically coordinated community workdays focused on reorganizing storage spaces and work areas, including materials, stage structures, and props used in the plays. These were rewarding days of collaboration and teamwork.

Over time, I’ve been saying, I learned to see possibilities in every space—opportunities to make it more beautiful, more comfortable, better adapted, more accessible, more functional, or more open. The act of imagining or carrying out the process that brings about this improvement fills me with enthusiasm.

For me, organizing is an activity I enjoy doing: sometimes alone, sometimes as part of a team, but always with a clear purpose. It’s a way to spend productive time at home or at work, to show appreciation for things, and to take care of what surrounds us.

I see tidying and reorganizing as a process of lightening our belongings, letting go of what we no longer need so that it can find its new place, and at the same time, freeing up our lives to keep only what we really need at any given moment. Our needs change over time, and it’s important to accompany these changes by letting go of the past with respect and gratitude.
